Stephen Colbert did what we wish he never had to do. He said goodbye to ‘The Colbert Report,’ after nine years and 1,447 episodes on the air, on Dec. 18. But he did so in the best way possible — with Bryan Cranston, James Franco, and many more celebs by his side!
Stephen Colbert started the final episode of The Colbert Report like so many before it, with hilarious jokes about current events. But the final half hour of the Comedy Central series soon turned emotional as he and his audience members came to terms with the fact that this would be the last episode of The Colbert Report ever.

The best part, and arguably the most emotional segment, happened when Stephen was joined byJon Stewart, James Franco, Andy Cohen, Katie Couric, Barry Manilow, Bryan Cranston and more celebs in a rousing rendition of Vera Lynn‘s “We’ll Meet Again.”
A large group of Stephen’s former guests sang:
“We’ll meet again,
Don’t know where, don’t know when,
But I know we’ll meet again, some sunny day.”
Don’t know where, don’t know when,
But I know we’ll meet again, some sunny day.”
Luckily, we do know when we’ll see Stephen Colbert because he’s leaving his Comedy Central series in order to take over The Late Show With David Letterman!
Stephen also crossed paths with Santa Claus, Abraham Lincoln and Alex Trebek during his final episode!
